We are "Our Fireside Romance" and we make music for lovers.
Larrie and I met in Alameda, California, back in July 2012. And have been literally making music, singing ( and writing) love songs and duets ever since. We even married in January 2016!
We hope you will share our ongoing journey and be encouraged that things we thought impossible can happen!
Larrie and I have had to be apart for quite some time and today , having just missed Valentine’s Day, which is when we usually do what we do best , love songs and duets. It’s also Larrie’s birthday this Friday and I am already saddened at not being able to be with him for it.
So, I made him this video from my photos and my own music
A classic song of love and the challenges that must be overcome in order to have that love come into fullness.
The song reflects the level of divine connection that exists in covenant love, beyond our physical limitations and the requirements sometimes existing in our lives, that we cannot simply ignore. In the novel series, “Escape To Ecclesia”, this ‘separation’ is depicted as multi-layered but is also overcome on all levels through the knowledge that love is more than merely being physically present. It knows no bondage to time, nor dictated to by distance. Ecclesia presents this love as being “In the [LIMINAL] Space Between”.
Liminal meaning being part of two or more realms, yet in crossing thresholds of all, belonging specifically to none. E.g. the stretch of sand that is beach at low tide, and ocean at high tide is neither truly beach nor ocean, but a unique space of its own because it is both.
It is the point where things meet and fuse together.
Relationships are all about liminal communion. The way of a man with a woman is this kind of fusion. A baby in his mother’s womb is both his own being and part of hers. Likewise, when nursed. True and deep connection intellectually, creatively, spiritually and /or emotionally is also a fusion of souls.
We are desperately lonely without these connections. Superficial and shallow games will never answer the deep drive for union. and communion and belonging
We meet God in the ‘space between’, in the realm of the Spirit—and nothing else has the power to fully satisfy us with lasting goodness the way an encounter with God does.
So, aside from my gifts for our gig tomorrow night, I spent the day trying to create a couple of special projects for precious people.
I followed along with Hetals Art Valentine’s Day Gift box
It still isn’t quite finished and it is pretty crude, made from whatever I could find , rather than especially bought materials… but that’s how I like it! 🙂
Pop UP fun
And here is the card I made Larrie, my husband. I’d already made him a very cool Anniversary gift in January, and next week for his 60th, I have organised a printed book of our last holiday in Australia…but, I still wanted to make him and pop up card lol
I followed along with Own World .I have seen a another very similar idea from Frugal Crafter, which was further simplified the pop up aspect, but it used a lot of added tools for finishings and decorations-which made it very sweet. I do like the simplicity and rawness of DI Y with re-purposed stuff!
Ok! That was my fun for today! And trust me, even I still have tax stuff to finish, I really needed that creative space!! Grateful! ❤
Throughout February, we will be playing our love songs and duets at Alameda’s Cinema Grill.
You can find the dates on our Calendar. Don’t wait till Valentine’s Day till treat your special sweetheart to some musical romance over dinner, before a movie or even with brunch.

So sorry about being so long away from my OFR blog desk!
I, Lisa, and still in Oz, and Larrie is back in the USA-both of us busily engaged in many diverse, activities!
I have had a ball with my grandbaby! And been overjoyed to be among my adult children as well. Both Larrie and I have continued to do music on both continents and the really good news is that we will soon be reunited and making more music together again!!! Here in OZ!
We have a special treat planned… which I will keep as a surprise- But, watch this space, as it will be exceptionally blog worthy!!
After that, a birthday, a wedding and then both of us will be US bound. Of course, I am very sad at missing yet another Boxing Day Family Reunion ( still struggling with that 😦 ), but, as you can imagine, after being away so long, I need to get back to a few things. Still, I am locking in 2019 for a Sydney Christmas, to get reacquainted with all my extended family and new additions-even if it means flying in and out for two days!!
You can check Reverbnation for calendar details.
I’ve had serious lack of time for getting to such things.

That night , Our Fireside Romance performed at Spaghetti & Jazz…but still trying to get some visuals of that.
Soon after, we flew to Sydney, and my son, Paul picked us up and took us to my mum’s, then after a GRAET night reuniting with my 2 brothers and 3 sons and sharing some music, we went up into the Blue Mountains.. Woodford , where we stayed a while with my little brother, Jamie.
The airbridge to Woodford station, coz we did take a train ride into Parramatta so Larrie could meet one of my friends, Andrew, with whom he had connected on Facebook.
I enjoyed being with my family so much and Larrie had a chance to meet a few more and deepen some relationships with others he already knew.
we enjoyed a breakfast in Burleigh, a lunch at Green Day cafe ( I think) and did an impromptu gig in Coolangatta, after attending A friend’s CD launch

Packing Bags Again…12 sleeps!
Given that Larrie and I hail from two different countries, and from places that are about 12000 km/8000mi apart, across a massive expanse of water known as the Pacific Ocean, it is not surprising that the “LD” of our “LDR” will have a permanent place in our day to day
Every day, I ache about being away from my home country and culture and not being a part of daily life with my children and new baby granddaughter, or being close enough to visit my mum, sis, bros etc. Don’t ever underestimate the other ‘LDR’s in your life when contemplating such an up-ending, up-rooting move.
Anyway… joy of joys!!!
Larrie and I are travelling to Oz in just 12 sleeps!!! Hallelujah!
And for the first time, we are actually going to travel together! ( at least, one way) I am going to stay longer than he.
Music DownUnder I am sure there will be music and singing but I don’t know all the details yet, so you’ll have to watch the calendar for whatever we may be doing in our southern jaunt. We do have a seniors gig for Sept 18, with our mate, Col Atkinson… this image is from late last year.
Family Time, family time…and more family time.
Two of my beautiful sons are celebrating 26th and 29th birthdays, so we’ll be gathering at my mum’s in Sydney for that special occasion. I will O-Ding on everyone as much as possible!
This is from my sons’ birthday last year, at their dad’s, in Sydney. Four of my five gorgeous gifts from God… from left , Matt ( 26 on 15/9), Paulie ( 29 on 17/9), Parrish and Sarah “Possum”. Paul is a miracle, as he was confirmed dead by two doctors in the womb at 10 weeks after a widespread abruption in the placenta-it detached from the uterine wall. But God resurrected him!!! Hallelujah!
So, these are the plans. We have been keeping busy with singing at senior centres and the Cinema Grill in Alameda, doing CPR classes and for me, the odd blog and painting…AND growing our garden! Check out our tomatoes!
And it’s harvest time!
Next time I write, will likely be in Oz…can’t wait!!!
Blessings in the name of the Lord Jesus!
Our Fourth of July Holiday Our Fireside Romance had a lovely little break away from the Bay Area over the July 4 holiday.
We have friends that have a nice cabin in the woods on Lake Almanor, some 260 miles from our door. It was a lovely drive once out of the traffic and get on Highway 5 heading north.
Seeing pockets of gum trees along the went made some locations look reminiscent of home, although they lack any of the accompanying wildlife I’m used to. Our trees love the hot, dry climate of the west slightly inland from the coast and benefit greatly from a good burn-off. The East Bay Area never really gets that hot, constantly tempered by winds and/or fog, but there are tons of gum trees. Whilst they flourish through a good burn and their oil acts as combustion liquid, the native trees do not replenish so well.
One thing the road trip lacked, giving it away as NOT being Ozzie, was the absence of something “BIG” lol.
Many of the pit stops on the Pacific Highway, are the milestone icons, such as The Big Banana, The Big Medieval Knight, The Big Avocado, The Big Pineapple, The Big Prawn and The Big Merino Sheep, just to name a few. As well as, The Dog on the Tuckerbox and The Black Stump. Attractions that grew up very organically within the local communities where they are encountered.
Larrie at the Big Banana and beneath the Big Prawn.
Of course, there are natural landmarks, fields of sunflowers full of glorious gold and green ( which just so happen to be Australian National Colours-even though our flag is red, white and blue!) We caught some great sights of the very tall, snow capped Mt Lassen, throughout our trip , but we also encountered a lot of smokey haze from one of those fires in Yolo County, obscuring hills and mountains on all sides of the vast valley plains.
We weren’t away for long and I had my heart set on seeing a sunrise on the water, since I hadn’t seen a sunrise at all since leaving home five months ago…and I was used to watching almost every day, and frequently over the Pacific Ocean. I was up early enough to enjoy two of the three mornings and had to walk a 30 minute down hill and 40 minute uphill trek to get them! Always worth it.
Our friends had a 4th of July party on the middle day which kept us busy from early till late. We had music and I videoed these three brothers (Bucky, Denny and Dave May), who were most entertaining. Our hosts videoed a little of us as well.
I collected a lot of photographic content for creating some momentos, and maybe gifts, but am yet to paint anything. Still, this is a version of a momento! 😊
Below is one popular view for local artists and their en plein aire adventures which I hope to capture in water colour as well. ( Will let you know when I do!)
My takeaway from this blog is…don’t wait to go away to enjoy the beauty around you. One thing I noticed is that I enjoyed being to relish the different conditions, but I take time every day to soak in and savour God’s creation wherever I am-sometimes from a simple flower, or fluttering butterflies, or beautiful skies. Whether tiny or vast, such things are so easily missed in the busyness of many peoples’ days. I make a point of looking for them!
Create beauty in your own little corner-just for you and God to share-your secret place, secret garden. Using your imagination to escape to a beautiful place, right where you are, has been proven to be the ‘stuff of holidays’. People who practice creativity do it as a lifestyle, losing themselves wholeheartedly in an expressive endeavor or project-however small. This is attested as having the affect of a holiday, disconnecting us from the cares and stresses of the days in which we live.
The whole hearted aspect is the critical component.
My challenge to you: take a holiday daily. Set your clock for however long you can give yourself, select a positive focus or activity (ANYthing) and get to it, abandoning all thought for everything else till your allotted time is up. Increase your time whenever you can.
Take note of the effects on your soul and psyche…and please…
Tell me all about it!
